Dr. Carey Snellings

Lead Pastor

Pastor Snellings came to Philadelphia Baptist Church in February of 2018 with his wife Jennifer, son Nathan, and daughter Kaylee. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in Catonsville, MD, a Master of Divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.

Since coming into the ministry in 2000, he has served in four churches. He was a Staff Pastor at Montrose Baptist Church in Rockville, MD, Senior Pastor of MorningStar Community Church in Laytonsville, MD, Senior Pastor of Hunting Creek Baptist Church in Big Island, VA, and now as Senior Pastor at Philadelphia.

Pastor Snellings favorite activity is preaching God’s Word. He also enjoys spending time with family, sports, gardening and home improvements, travel, video games, history, metal detecting, animals, and eating good food.

A lifelong Southern Baptist, Dr. Snellings adamantly adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, and is a believer in the effectiveness of the Cooperative Program. He feels privileged to serve in ministry, holds the church as the most important entity in the world today, wants nothing more than to see people come into saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and is driven by his desire to be part of growing the Kingdom of God. He has many verses that he holds dear, but his current life verse is Ephesians 3:20-21.

Rev. Jacob Capps

Associate Pastor of Family Ministry

Pastor Jacob Capps came to the Philadelphia Baptist Church in September of 2020 with his wife Hope, to serve as the Associate Pastor for Family Ministry. The year 2020 was not only a wild one due to the pandemic, but Jacob and Hope got married at the end of August, moved to Matthews, NC, bought a house, and started new jobs.

Jacob holds a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, KY. He will be continuing his education as he begins to pursue his Master of Divinity. After accepting the call into ministry, he has been blessed to serve in a full-time Student Pastor position since 2014. Jacob came on staff here at Philadelphia Baptist after being called away from his previous position as Associate Pastor of Family Ministry, from First Baptist Church of Wallace, NC, where he served over 2 years.

In his downtime, Jacob loves spending time with his wife and their three amazing dogs, fishing, golfing, fitness, and taking care of his grass!

Yvette  Godwin

Our music is under the guidance of Yvette Godwin and she is passionate about music that lifts up the name of Jesus. Our music here at Philadelphia Baptist is a blend of traditional hymns and  praise /worship songs. We have several members who are dedicated to serving in leading our congregation during each worship service and a choir that will bless your heart through song. Yvette has been a member of our church since she was 9 years old and raised in a loving and Christian home by her parents, Rev. Dwight and Norma Mabry. Rev. Mabry was pastor at our church for 39 years and after his retirement, Yvette continued to serve at our church as music director. Through the years she has taught Sunday School, served in our children’s ministry, and assisted with VBS. She has played the piano since an early age in our church, whether it was playing for prelude, special music or the congregational hymns and choir.

Yvette is married to Scott Godwin and they have two children, Hannah Griffin (husband Jeffrey) and Abby Godwin. They have also been blessed with a granddaughter Eliza Jane. She enjoys trips

to mountains and hiking to waterfalls. She mostly enjoys spending time with the family she has been blessed with, especially being Mimi to Eliza Jane. If you would like to reach out to Yvette regarding the music at our church, you may contact her at pianomama3251@gmail.com

Come , let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our Salvation.  Let us come to Him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to Him.   Psalms 95:1-2
